Microsoft closes acquisition of Revolution Analytics

Earlier this year we announced the plan to acquire Revolution Analytics—we’ve now closed the acquisition agreement, and together we’ll help unlock the power of the R language for advanced analytics on big data. R is the world’s most popular programming language for statistical computing and predictive analytics, used by more than 2 million people worldwide. Revolution has made R enterprise-ready with speed and scalability for the largest data warehouses and Hadoop systems. Azure Stream Analytics generally available

Azure Stream Analytics is a real-time stream processing engine in the cloud that helps uncover insights from devices, sensors, infrastructure, and applications. Developers describe their desired event stream processing and transformations in an SQL-like query language, and the system abstracts the complexities of the parallelization, distributed computing, and error handling. Temporal semantics are built in. New capabilities include support for automatically refreshing reference data, improved job diagnostics, and the ability to create new Azure Services for inputs and outputs within the context of your Stream Analytics job. These enhancements help you achieve a lower cost real-time streaming processing solution in the cloud.

Azure Premium Storage is a solid-state drive (SSD)–based storage offering designed to support I/O-intensive workloads. With Premium Storage, you can add up to 32 TB of persistent storage per virtual machine (VM), with more than 50,000 IOPS per VM with extremely low latencies for read operations. Premium Storage is currently available for use in the West US, East US 2, West Europe, Southeast Asia, and Japan West regions. With general availability, Premium Storage will now carry a service-level agreement (SLA) for 99.9 percent availability.

In today’s mobile-first, cloud-first world, companies are using apps to better engage their customers, partners, and employees from virtually anywhere, on nearly any device. They rely on developers to quickly build those apps for connecting to popular services and on-premises systems, plus autoscaling as the business needs. Azure App Service is a unique new service that helps developers deliver cross-platform, cloud-connected apps faster than ever before. It allows developers to more easily build employee, partner, and customer-facing apps for any platform or device. All for one low price, this solution integrates Azure Websites, Mobile Services, and BizTalk Services into a single service—with a common app-hosting, runtime, and extensibility mode—for simplified integration with popular consumer and commercial services, plus on-premises systems. Watch the video announcement and create your app with App Service today.
