Bitstamp recently announced that customers in Slovenia and the United Kingdom would be able to buy bitcoin using MasterCard and Visa credit and debit cards. Two new major countries now join that list.
Bitstamp has revealed today that users in Germany and Italy will be able to buy Bitcoin instantly by using their credit or debit cards.
The new option to buy bitcoin through Visa or MasterCard comes via a Canadian payment processor, Vogogo.
There are limits to buying bitcoin with plastic cards, however. Currently, users will only be able to buy less than 1 BTC in a day, with a $300 daily purchase limit through card payments. Adding to it is a weekly limit of $1500.
Users can opt for buying bitcoin with their cards by choosing ‘credit card’ in the deposit page. Users can then choose the amount of money to be spent (up to $300) before entering their credit/debit card details.
Mitigating DDoS Attacks
Another day, another bitcoin exchange company marked as a target for DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks. Yesterday, European bitcoin exchange BTC-e was knocked offlinefor multiple hours following a DDoS attack. The exchange was fully restored today.
Bitstamp also faced a DDoS attack today but did not reveal any details about a plausible extortion demand by possible extortionists targeting the website.
The attack seems to have been mitigated quickly however, with Bitstamp revealing – not soon after – that the website was back online.
CCN was the target of DDoS attacks in recent times. While we didn’t give in to the ransom demands by the extortionist(s), we did offer up a bounty of 5 BTC for any information that would lead to a successful police report.
