Wayne Vaughn, CEO of Tierion, points out that, while we may be dazzled by the benefits of blockchain technology, we can't lose sight of the economics.
 
How much does it cost? Who pays for it? How does it sustain itself?
 
He talks us through three of the main blockchains – bitcoin, ethereum and Hyperledger – and shows how they are (or will become) self-sustainable. He also advises those investing in a blockchain to consider whether it will be around years from now. Without a stable ecosystem (which needs its incentives), he believes it probably won't be.

IRS Asks Court to Reject Protest Filing From Coinbase Customer
The case of the summons presented to Coinbase in November by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) takes a new turn. The IRS has asked that the filing submitted by a Coinbase client, alleging (among other things) that the summons was too broad, be dismissed. They claim that the summons is only for unidentified clients, and as such, the client in question is no longer included. Read more.

Hyperledger Adds 8 More Members to End 2016
The additions highlight the increasing diversity of Hyperledger's members, as they include a Swiss telecommunications enterprise, a digital asset exchange, a healthcare technology provider, and a Korean blockchain services company. In less than a year, Hyperledger has grown from 0 to over 100 members. Read more.

Will We See a $1,000 Bitcoin in 2016? Analysts Suggest Yes
CoinDesk spoke to several bitcoin traders and analysts, who agree that the BTC price is likely to reach $1,000 by year end. If this happens, it will be the first time the price has reached that level since January 2014, and could (according to the experts) generate even greater visibility and price support. Read more.
