Illinois Government Unveils Expansive Blockchain Industry Support Plan


While some states seem to be cobbling together a patchwork strategy to blockchain implementation, Illinois is taking a very different approach.

Yesterday at the DC Blockchain Summit, it revealed a sweeping multi-agency, public-private partnership that aims to connect much of the state's infrastructure using a distributed ledger.

CoinDesk spoke to Jennifer O'Rourke, the group's blockchain business liaison, on the purpose and plan for the project.

As well as several initiatives focused on education and preparation, the group hopes to leverage the state's strategic position as a center for logistics and finance to extend blockchain awareness throughout the private sector.

Although the scope is broad and complex, this comprehensive approach is likely to kickstart a strong ecosystem for innovation, implementation and knowledge that could, with luck, end up spreading to other jurisdictions.
