For all the progress the internet has made in digitizing the exchange of information, there might be one weak link in the proverbial chain. As highlighted in a new op-ed by CoinDesk advisory board chair Michael J. Casey, the missing ingredient is people. After all, while technology does provide capabilities, it's we who must interpret and explain on its behalf. In this way, the latest edition of Casey's weekly column "The Token Economy" gives an amusing, though instructive, walkthrough of the various uses of the word "blockchain." As a noun, adjective – and don't you dare say it, verb – he argues "blockchain" the word has done much to represent the way we humans see a technological phenomenon. Our confusion, our fear, even our ignorance, he positions as obvious in how we use the 10-letter term. Going forward, no doubt, there will be standards, and use will evolve. Still, it's a powerful reminder that, like Mr. Casey's writing, the word is likely to continue to serve as an industry barometer. | | | ⭐ COINDESK SPONSOR ⭐ Take Back Control of Your Private, Personal Data We have all been handing control of our sensitive private data to countless online services.
