THE REVOLUTION

Inside Cuba's Bitcoin Revolution
By Alex Gadstein

As political demonstrations show the world that Cubans are tired of dictatorship, Bitcoin is providing an option to peacefully protest and opt out of a broken system.

Another eye-opening piece by Alex Gladstein, where through a set of interviews with the local community, he narrates the history of hardships and economic misery lived by the Cuban population throughout the years, after it had been one of the richest countries in Latin America.

In a place where financial external communication is heavily controlled, bitcoin is becoming a way for the young population to connect with the outside world. When the government is not there to help its citizens and the current financial system propagates structural inequality, the only thing left to do for society is to search for the solution by their own hands, and in this moment bitcoin is hope and a path forward for achieving freedom.

"In Cuba, there are two options," he added. "You can leave Cuba and escape the Matrix, or you can stay and play the game. Bitcoin is a cheat code to play the game. Now, I choose to stay."

Digital Insurance Platform Metromile Purchases $1 Million in Bitcoin
By Alex Mcshane

Metromile purchased $1 million worth of bitcoin. The company announced it will soon implement a bitcoin payment solution on its platform, and that it would purchase additional bitcoin.

Metromile, a digital pay-per-mile auto insurance firm, gets one step closer to the bitcoin standard. The company has previously announced a purchase of $1 million in bitcoin, and now its plan to purchase an additional $10 million in bitcoin and to implement a payment solution to facilitate insurance payouts in bitcoin.

"We believe in the transformative potential of blockchain technology. We are still in the early days of realizing how this shift to decentralized finance and cryptocurrency will create enduring advantages in insurance, but we believe that offering bitcoin as an option for premium and claims payments would be an important first step." - Dan Preston, CEO of Metromile.

MINERS HODL

Chinese Crackdown Allow North American Miners To HODL More Bitcoin
By Namcios

Since China started cracking down on bitcoin mining, North American miners have enjoyed lower difficulty to mine and HODL more BTC.

The North American mining industry reported unprecedented growth in its operations for the month of July. Since most of the hashing power in China was turned off in June due to the country's regulations, miners in North America harnessed the opportunity to increase their total amount of bitcoin mined by 58%, without a meaningful increase in its hash rate capacity.

One of the most interesting factors is that miners seem not to be selling on the previous weeks. Which reflects both long-term conviction, and a consensus on an expected appreciation.

By Raymond Walsh

If you care about the health of the Bitcoin network, you should consider mining bitcoin at home. Here's how you can get started.
