Bitcoin.com: a year in review

2022 Yearly Recap

2022 has shown the world the importance of self-custody. Meanwhile, Bitcoin.com is proud to have continued developing and refining tools that enable millions of people to safely and easily interact with decentralized finance in a self-custodial way. This year, all improvements have been hyper focused on helping our users transition away from centralized exchanges, where they are exposed to counterparty risk, toward self-custody products and services, where they are in full control of their assets. Below, we'll highlight the improvements we worked on this year, all in the service of Bitcoin.com's mission to create more economic freedom in the world.

Markets View

In January, we added functionality to track price action and get key info for top cryptoassets in the Bitcoin.com Wallet. Now it's easier than ever to stay on top of the market.

Announcing Verse: the ultimate utility and rewards token

In March we announced VERSE, the native reward and utility token of the Bitcoin.com ecosystem. VERSE gives crypto beginners and enthusiasts alike the opportunity to benefit from the Bitcoin.com ecosystem and the untapped potential of the best name in crypto.

First phase of Verse token sale completed

In May, Bitcoin.com completed a $33.6M private Sale for VERSE, with participation from major industry players including Digital Strategies, KuCoin Ventures, Blockchain.com, ViaBTC Capital, Redwood City Ventures, BoostX Ventures, and select individual thought leaders and influencers including Roger Ver and Jihan Wu.

Over 100 tokens added to the Bitcoin.com Wallet

In July, we integrated more than 100 of the most popular ERC-20 tokens to the Bitcoin.com Wallet. Get the full list of available tokens here.

Say goodbye to long, complicated wallet addresses

We also incorporated Unstoppable Domains, thereby allowing Bitcoin.com Wallet users to send cryptocurrency to a full range of human-readable addresses like 'elizabeth.crypto'. Read more about Unstoppable Domains, how to get one, and how to use them in the Bitcoin.com Wallet here.

Avalanche support added to the Bitcoin.com Wallet

In September, we added support for Avalanche to our self-custodial web3 wallet. This allows for intuitive but secure access to Avalanche's high-throughput, low-fee decentralized network.

🎉 35 million wallets created

October was a major milestone month as we marked the 35 millionth self-custodial wallet created in the Bitcoin.com Wallet since launching in June 2017. With 25 million wallets in November 2021, that's 10 million wallets created in less than a year!

Automated fraud protection added

We added functionality to the Bitcoin.com Wallet that gives a warning if users interact with a blockchain address labeled as high-risk by HAPI, an on-chain cybersecurity protocol dedicated to preventing fraud and hacker attacks.

Since launch, the system has provided automated warnings to over 350 people that the address they are sending to is at risk of being a scam. Most of those people chose not to go through with the transaction.

Verse public token sale launched

November marked the beginning of the public sale for the VERSE token with tens of thousands of pre-registered purchasers able to finally acquire the Bitcoin.com ecosystem token.

'CEX Education Program' launched to reward victims of centralized crypto failures and bolster DeFi

We also announced the CEX Education Program, a program that will compensate customers affected by centralized crypto company insolvencies while encouraging the adoption of decentralized finance and self-custody. The CEX Education Program will draw its resources from Bitcoin.com's ecosystem token VERSE. Read more.

Bitcoin.com's Verse DEX launched

Bitcoin.com's decentralized exchange, Verse DEX, rolled out in November with support for Ethereum. That means anyone can now trade Ether (ETH) and ERC-20 tokens permissionlessly on the DEX. Learn how to use the Verse DEX in the self-custodial Bitcoin.com Wallet here.

Bitcoin.com Wallet passed Kudelski security audit

The renowned cybersecurity experts at Kudelski Security completed a comprehensive audit of the Bitcoin.com Wallet, finding that there is no real-world scenario in which an attacker would be able to compromise a user's private keys. As a result of the Bitcoin.com Wallet's decentralized features, threats and potential attack vectors were deemed negligible. Find the full report here.

Bitcoin.com Wallet added next low-fee chain, Polygon (MATIC)

Finally, the high-speed, low-fee Ethereum sidechain Polygon was added to Bitcoin.com Wallet.

VERSE token launched, trading started on Verse DEX

During the first week of December, the first VERSE block was minted on Ethereum. The token immediately became available on the Verse DEX with thousands of transactions.

Verse Community launched

We also opened applications for the Verse Community. The Verse Community aims to support developers and participants through initiatives, events, and projects that grow Bitcoin.com's Verse ecosystem. Check out the Verse Community page for further information on our community grants.
